HCL Technologies and OM Foundation joined hands to bring a positive change in the lives of the underprivileged by doing various volunteering activities such as healthcare camps, community development projects, awareness camps and various other social activities for the benefit of the society. Acknowledging its social responsibility, HCL technologies and its volunteers have shown their commitment towards this cause by initiating the program “Power on One”. The program “Power of One” aims to strengthen employee commitment to society and environment. This will also strengthen the employee’s ability to lead, work in teams, and be a catalyst for social change.

The first event under this umbrella was organized on Saturday 17th March, 2012 at OM Foundation School, village Hoshiarpur, Noida. Various activities such as health awareness talk, drawing competition, community lunch were conducted with an objective to sensitize the underprivileged students on the importance of health and hygiene in their daily lives.

Dr. Garima of Sai Sparsh Clinic in Noida delivered the health and hygiene awareness talk.    She focused on the simple ways to conduct and maintain a good health and hygiene standard. The small things like washing hands, keeping hankies can make a big difference if it is inculcated in the individual’s habit. She also discussed how to deal with minor health problems and how to stay fit in the given living and environment condition.  The HCL volunteers interacted with the students and further elaborated the points discussed by the doctor.

The students of standard third to eight participated in the event and spent the time with the volunteers with all pleasure. After the awareness talk the volunteers divided the students into three groups for various other activities. Drawing competitions were conducted for standard third, fourth, seventh and eighth which were divided into two groups. The junior kids were asked to paint on the theme “My favorite festival” while the seniors where given topics related to health-hygiene and mobile communication.  The students of fifth and sixth participated in newspaper reading activity and quiz competition. The winners were also awarded at the end of the event for their fabulous performances.

The other activity of the day was the community lunch in which the volunteers and the students worked together and helped in preparing and serving the food. The volunteers showed their passion and commitment in serving the society. Students were highly motivated and learned the value of time and service from these volunteers.

The “Power of One” made an important impact in the lives of these students. Students enjoyed the company of HCL Technologies volunteers. The bond has been developed and the volunteers were equally satisfied by doing a day of volunteering at the school. This is just a humble beginning of this noble journey and in the near future the association of OM Foundation and HCL Technologies will organize many such activities which will have a bigger impact on the underprivileged population. OM Foundation extends special thanks to the management and the volunteers of the HCL Technologies for initiating this program for its beneficiaries.
